Mid Wales area

Set in some of the most magnificent countryside in Britain, Caer Beris is the ideal base for exploring this little known and beautiful area. Hidden and protected by the Brecon Beacons to the south, the Cambrian Mountains to the West and the Snowdonia National Park to the north, all of Wales can be discovered.

Follow the Wye up towards its source and visit the Elan valley, a series of Victorian dams and reservoirs nestling in the hills. Take the mountain roads to Devils Bridge, Aberystwyth and Tregaron. Narrow strips of tarmac lead you to the top of the world.

Take the Llewelyn Trail which follows the last days of the last Prince of Wales. From the cave in Aberedw where he hid, to Cilmery, close to the hotel, where he was killed. Finally on to the ruins of Abbeycwmhir where he is buried.

Builth Wells was originally a thriving Spa Town. Other towns in the area, Llandrindod Wells, Llanwrtyd Wells and Llangammarch Wells share this heritage and give an insight into this fascinating period.

Follow the river a short way downstream to Hay-on-Wye and browse through the many second hand bookshops that it is famous for.

If the weather is not so good, there is the Welsh Crystal Factory, Dan yr Ogof Caves and the many museums in the area.
